How to Disable IPv6 for Consoles

Note: Unlike PCs, where IPv6 can be disabled for the individual device, consoles may require disabling IPv6 at the router-level, which not all routers allow. This affects all devices connected to the router. This is usually fine if your daily home usage looks like streaming, YouTube, Steam, Discord, gaming, web browsing, email, downloads, etc. Those can generally operate perfectly well over IPv4. The probability that disabling IPv6 breaks something a typical home user needs is not zero, but very low. IPv6 can simply be re-enabled if it breaks compatibility with anything.

To disable IPv6 for Playstation and Xbox consoles, you will need to access your router's admin page. You can visit How to Access your Router's Admin Page to learn how.

After accessing your router's admin page, you will need to find the section that includes IPv6 settings. As is the case with router settings, names vary by brand. IPv6 settings are commonly found in:

Advanced → Network → IPv6

or

Internet/WAN → IPv6

or

Network → IPv6

Here are other locations where IPv6 may be found:

After you find the settings, disabling IPv6 is usually as simple as unchecking a checkbox/toggle or a dropdown menu where you select "Disabled." Save the changes, and reboot your router to ensure the changes are fully applied.

If you cannot find an option to disable IPv6, you may call your Internet Service Provider and ask them to disable it from their end. If disabling IPv6 did not resolve the error, remember to re-enable it for general compatibility's sake.
